artist's impression

Current

I saw an asteroid today.
It was in there, somewhere. In the gray
crevasses. Dark gray
valleys. Light gray
interior.
There, apparent, clearly visible
yet
apparently unknowable.

I saw an asteroid.
I saw the inexplicable scent of steaming pork baos
-the warmth in (and around) the chest of an unexpected hug
or unexpected blood
-the glare of approaching sirens, waxing in volume, waning in pitch.

I saw the pixels, each one in effective superposition
between heaven and earth.
A machine's impression
-of an artist's impression
-of everything.

Brainstorming, drafts...

Things to think about

Draft 4

I saw an asteroid today.

Draft 3

crevasses. Dark gray
valleys. Light gray

I saw an asteroid.
I saw the inexplicable scent of steaming pork baos (I want to replace "inexplicable" with a more visual term)
-the warmth in (and around) the chest of an unexpected hug
or unexpected blood
-the glare of approaching sirens, slowing to a stop instead of passing.

I saw the pixels, each one in effective superposition
between heaven and earth.
A machine's impression
-of an artist's impression
-of everything.

Draft 2

I saw an asteroid today.
It was somewhere in there. The gray
crevasses. Dark gray
valleys. Light gray
interior.
There, apparent, clearly visible
yet
apparently unknowable.

I saw an asteroid.
I saw a friend, an enemy.
Hate, love.
Heaven, Hell.
Hopes... dreams.
A machine's impression
-of an artist's impression
-of everything.

Draft 1

I saw an asteroid today.
It was somewhere in there. The gray
crevasses. Gray
valleys. Gray
interior.
Slice after pixelated slice of the clearly visible yet unknowable.
I saw an asteroid. Hopes, dreams. Hate, love.
An artist's impression of everything.
