defining new musical language in the context of a song or piece

- Motivated by Thursday, where he sort of redefines the word "pummel" in the context of the story.
- Can you do something similar with music?
- [?] Are there examples of this?
What would this look like?
- Well, if I think of a word as a particular unit of music
- E.g. a chord: it would have to be a rather unique chord
- Maybe more natural to make it a short melody, like a jingle. A couple notes long.
- Jingles in the sense of an advertising jingle are sorta like this. They get repeated enough in a particular context that when I hear the neighbor jingle, I immediately think of State Farm.
- The question is if you can make such a thing happen more locally.
- And you would take this little jingle and place it in contexts that lend it new meaning:
- E.g. you could take an ambiguous jingle (in terms of connotation) and keep putting it in the context of sad chord (progressions) until that jingle alone evokes a feeling of melancholy.
- It's probably easier/more natural for this to happen in the context of a film
