• One reason we colonialists thought of indigineous people as "lower" was because they didn't believe in the same myths as we do.
• These are myths which help to maintain a larger society
  • Although this isn't necessarily necessary; one can also have a feudal type structure where one person owns all the land, and everyone else is just working on it.
• the purpose of life is whatever is most convenient for society to believe: we've convinced ourselves that possessions and property are key aspects of a good life, because this has been useful for society.
