Okay, so I guess the point I want to make is that creation is randomness. And perhaps something is only new when it doesn't satisfy concentration of measure.

• What isn't new

  • What I'm writing here, and the thoughts that are leading up to it.
  • The sequence of ideas leading to the LLM.

• What is new

  • The interactions that led to these thoughts. Although perhaps that's not even true, as many people have likely had similar thoughts as well. But, let's take Newton's laws of motion. What was new wasn't his thought process that led to F=ma, but rather the apple that fell on his head.
  • For LLMs, it was the creation of the institutions necessary for their development: big tech companies, maybe competition between US and China, the internet, the conferences that allowed for the mingling and sharing of ideas.
