who we are is what we choose to be blind to

#thought

They say love is blind. War is blind. Hate makes you blind.

Really, we're all blind. We have to be. There's too much to see.

As kids, we see all of it. That butterfly at the corner of my eye. The weird speck on that clock. The beggar blending into the street. It's exhilarating. And it's unsustainable.

And so, we spend our lives trying to find the thing to blind us. We marry so we can blind ourselves to all the fish in the sea. We go to university to blind ourselves of the realities of the working class.

We slide through an endless stream of filtered photos and glorious getaways so we can blind ourselves to all the ways we ourselves could be living our lives right now, rather than just watching others live it for us.

We blind ourselves until what we see makes us happy.
